I was lucky enough to attend an early screening of Jackie Chan’s new action-packed film The Shadow’s Edge last night. Wow! If you took Infernal Affairs (or its U.S. remake The Departed), blended it with John Wick, added the breakneck parkour of District 13, sprinkled in Ong Bak and The Raid, and topped it off with classic Jackie Chan humour, you’d get The Shadow’s Edge.
Plot
Set in neon-soaked Macau, retired surveillance expert Wong Tak-chong (Jackie Chan) is pulled back into action when a daring heist crew, led by the mysterious “Shadow,” targets a high-stakes cryptocurrency vault. He is joined by He Qiuguo (Zhang Zifeng), a young officer carrying a heavy personal history, whose cautious approach makes working with Wong a challenge. As they track the crew through daring heists and high-rise chases, loyalties are tested and secrets emerge, keeping the tension high without ever slowing the pace.
Action & Style
A rooftop chase highlights the crew’s incredible parkour skills, while tense sequences showcase Wong Tak-chong’s mastery of surveillance and tactical skill. There’s also a claustrophobic lift fight reminiscent of John Wick, and a brutal showdown in an abandoned orphanage with the bone-crunching intensity of The Raid.
The blend of styles is thrilling: parkour-inspired chases, high-level martial arts, and Wong’s expert tactics keep the audience constantly engaged. It’s a perfect balance of high-stakes action and clever strategy pure Jackie Chan magic.
The build-up to the final showdown between Jackie Chan and Tony Leung Ka-fai is legendary, evoking the same intense anticipation as Robert De Niro and Al Pacino in Heat. It’s one of the best fight sequences you can really feel, combining high-level martial arts, strategy, and emotional stakes that make every punch and counter hit with real impact.
Performances
Jackie Chan delivers warmth, humour, and world-weariness, proving he can still anchor an action film with heart and skill. Tony Leung Ka-fai adds gravitas and intensity, particularly shining in the climactic fight against Chan, making the showdown unforgettable. Meanwhile, Zhang Zifeng shines as He Qiuguo, bringing energy, determination, and emotional depth to complement the veterans.
Verdict
The Shadow’s Edge is more than just an action movie it’s a masterclass in blending crime thriller, martial arts spectacle, and emotional storytelling. It honours Jackie Chan’s legendary career while showing he still has the charisma and skills to thrill audiences.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ (4.5/5)
A must-see for action fans Jackie Chan remains one of cinema’s true icons.
Warhammer has always been more than just miniatures and dice. It’s about community a place where people come together to play, paint, share ideas, and build friendships around the hobby. For years, local Warhammer shops have been safe and welcoming spaces for both newcomers and veterans alike.
I’m not a player myself, but Warhammer has been a huge part of my son’s life. The local shop in Basildon used to be somewhere he could go regularly to play games, learn, and connect with others who shared the same passion. It wasn’t just about rolling dice or painting miniatures it was about being part of a community that encouraged creativity, strategy, and social connection.
One of the best things about the Basildon Warhammer shop was the people. The regular players weren’t just there for themselves they were always friendly to newcomers, offering advice, explaining rules, and making anyone who walked through the door feel welcome. They also supported the shop by buying products locally and attending official events, keeping the store active and successful.
The previous manager, James, understood this better than anyone. He wasn’t just running a shop, he was nurturing a community. James was incredibly friendly and always supported his regulars. On a personal note, he even helped me several times when I needed to buy products for my son at Christmas or his birthday, letting me know what armies my son was collecting or playing as so I could choose the perfect gift. That kind of personal touch made a lasting difference.
But recently, things have changed. Since the management shift, the community side of the store has been shut down. Regulars are no longer allowed to play games or paint in the shop. What was once a lively hub full of activity and camaraderie has now been reduced to little more than a retail outlet.
This decision has had a big effect on my son and the other regulars. For them, the shop wasn’t just somewhere to buy models it was their safe space, their meeting place, and the heart of their hobby. Now, they are left looking at alternative venues just so they can play games, paint, and hang out together. That shouldn’t be the case. Gaming and painting are the lifeblood of Warhammer, and both should be allowed and encouraged in every Warhammer shop.
And here’s the crucial point: the Basildon Warhammer shop is currently looking for a new manager. This is a golden opportunity for Games Workshop to put things right. By appointing someone who understands the importance of community someone like James, who saw players not just as customers but as people they could rebuild the heart of the hobby in Basildon.
Warhammer thrives on community. The hobby doesn’t exist in isolation it lives in the shared stories, the battles across tabletops, the painted armies, and the friendships forged over dice rolls. Basildon deserves a manager who sees that and supports it.
A Call to Action
I don’t usually get involved in things like this, but this is very important to my son, so it is important to me. I will always fight for him and for the things that matter to him, using whatever is in my power to make a noise. And I am good at making a noise.
If you’ve felt the impact of this change whether you’re a parent, a player, or someone who once found joy in visiting the shop please share this post on your socials or LinkedIn if you have one. The more noise we make, the more attention we can draw to the importance of allowing gaming and painting back in the shop and supporting the Basildon Warhammer community.
A Warhammer store should be more than a shop. It should be the beating heart of the hobby. With the right manager, Basildon has the chance to restore that heart and the players are ready for it.

The gaming world is buzzing with excitement, and for good reason. Nintendo has officially unveiled the highly anticipated Switch 2, setting the stage for what could be the next revolution in gaming technology. For gamers, tech enthusiasts, and industry insiders alike, the Switch 2 promises an entirely new experience, blending the best of what Nintendo’s hybrid console has already brought to the table with cutting-edge advancements that could reshape the future of gaming as we know it. But what exactly makes the Switch 2 so special? Let’s dive into what we know so far and what it could mean for the gaming landscape.
What is the Switch 2?
At its core, the Switch 2 is an upgraded successor to the wildly successful Nintendo Switch, a console that has become a household name since its release in 2017. However, calling it just an upgrade would be an understatement. While the Switch redefined the concept of hybrid gaming, allowing players to seamlessly transition between handheld and docked modes, the Switch 2 aims to take that foundation to the next level.
A New Generation of Gaming Hardware
The first major talking point is the hardware. Early reports indicate that the Switch 2 will feature significant improvements in processing power, with an upgraded chip that promises smoother gameplay, faster load times, and the ability to handle more graphically demanding games without compromising on performance. Think of it as a turbocharged version of the Switch, with a more powerful processor that brings it closer to the level of other consoles like the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X while still retaining the signature portability that made the original Switch a hit.
This leap in hardware power will undoubtedly enhance the gaming experience, but it’s not just about raw power. The improvements also extend to the screen, with rumours suggesting a higher resolution display and improved refresh rates, making for a more vibrant and responsive handheld gaming experience.
Backwards Compatibility: A Game Changer for Nintendo Fans
One of the biggest concerns for gamers when a new console is released is whether their existing game library will carry over. Fortunately, Nintendo seems to have listened to fans. The Switch 2 is expected to be fully backwards compatible, meaning that players can continue enjoying their favourite Switch games without needing to repurchase them. This is a major win for Nintendo fans, as it ensures that the investment in their game library is protected and that the Switch 2 can easily integrate into their existing setup.
Moreover, with the enhanced hardware, older games could receive performance boosts, such as faster load times and improved graphics, making them feel fresh again, even for those who have already played them extensively.
The Evolution of the Nintendo Switch Ecosystem
New Accessories and Features
As with any new console release, the Switch 2 is expected to introduce a range of new accessories and features. Rumours are swirling about a new and improved Joy-Con controller, which will likely come with enhanced ergonomics and possibly even new functionality to take advantage of the upgraded hardware. Nintendo is known for its creative approach to gaming peripherals, so it’s exciting to think about what innovations might come alongside the Switch 2.
Another potential game-changing addition could be an improved online service. Nintendo has historically lagged behind its competitors when it comes to online infrastructure, but with the Switch 2, there’s a real opportunity to see enhancements in multiplayer gaming, cloud saves, and perhaps even a new form of digital storefront.
More Game Options and a Stronger Game Library
With more processing power and improved capabilities, the Switch 2 is likely to see even more third-party developers flocking to the platform. While the original Switch was praised for its library of indie games and Nintendo exclusives, the Switch 2 could open the door for even more AAA titles to make their way onto the system. This expansion could greatly benefit gamers, offering a greater variety of genres and gameplay experiences than ever before.
Importantly, Nintendo is known for its iconic franchises, and with the Switch 2, there’s no doubt that new entries in beloved series such as The Legend of Zelda, Super Mario, and Metroid are in the works. What’s even more exciting is the possibility of completely new IPs being introduced, making the Switch 2 a potentially landmark console for original content.
What Could the Switch 2 Mean for the Gaming Industry?
Redefining Gaming Portability
One of the standout features of the original Switch was its hybrid nature. Players could enjoy console-quality games at home on their TV or take them on the go, offering a level of versatility that was unmatched by other systems. With the Switch 2, Nintendo is looking to further perfect this concept, possibly with even more innovative features that make the system more portable, while still offering the power to run the latest and most demanding games.
This renewed focus on portability could inspire other gaming companies to rethink how they approach hybrid gaming systems, possibly influencing future console designs across the industry. In fact, the Switch 2 could very well prompt the development of new gaming peripherals or even encourage other companies to create handheld consoles that match or surpass its capabilities.
A New Era of Cloud Gaming
The rise of cloud gaming has been one of the most significant developments in recent years, and the Switch 2 could be poised to tap into this trend. With improved hardware and the potential for faster internet speeds, the Switch 2 could offer cloud gaming capabilities that allow players to stream titles directly to their console, bypassing the need for physical discs or large downloads. This would not only open up the Switch 2 to a larger library of games but could also further cement Nintendo’s position as a leader in the gaming industry.
The Future of Nintendo and Its Audience
Looking ahead, the Switch 2 could have far-reaching implications for Nintendo’s approach to gaming. By investing in hardware that supports a more immersive and diverse gaming experience, the company could reach new audiences, including those who may not have considered a Nintendo console in the past. Furthermore, the Switch 2’s ability to bridge the gap between portable gaming and console-quality experiences could open up new possibilities for casual gamers, hardcore players, and everything in between.
The Importance of Innovation in Gaming
At its heart, the Switch 2 represents Nintendo’s dedication to innovation. Since the days of the Game Boy, Nintendo has consistently pushed boundaries in ways that few other companies have managed. The Switch 2 appears to be no different. By addressing the limitations of previous consoles and adding new, exciting features, Nintendo is setting itself up for another successful era in gaming.
